One of the goals of Wylie United Methodist Church is to help you find a place where you can be involved and assist in ministry.


Below is a description of some of the major ministries in which we are currently involved.  These ministries are a vital way of fleshing out our church’s vision of being committed to:

Ministry Interest

Hospitality Ministry

  • Donut Tables - The table with the donuts and specialized coffees make a great impression on members and guests on Sunday morning. This ministry involves set up and break down. This is a fantastic way to work behind the scenes with a team of volunteers.
  • Door Greeter - A genuine smile, handshake and a sincere “Good Morning!” are the prerequisites for this welcoming ministry as our guests and church family members come in to worship. Simply stand at one of our sets of doors and welcome all who enter.
  • Parking Lot Greeter - A hearty welcome and genuine hospitality begins in the parking lot. A reflective parking lot vest is provided and is located at the “Welcome Center”. We ask you to provide the handshake, a smile and a morning greeting.
  • Welcome Desk Greeter - Guest and their families need direction. They ask: Where do my children go to Sunday School? Where do I go for Sunday School? Who do I need to contact to get involved in this ministry or that ministry?

Worship Ministry

  • Usher - The usher team is on the front lines in worship. They greet guests, pass out bulletins and attendance folders, as well as, collect prayer requests and the offering.
  • Chancel Choir - This group helps lead early worship by leading the congregational hymns and sharing a traditional choral anthem. This group sings seasonal cantatas and puts on special programs.
  • Music Ministry - If you enjoy singing, playing an instrument, or even learning how to play a ukulele, there are many opportunities to participate in our music ministry.  You can find more information about this ministry on our Connect/Music Ministry page.
  • Liturgist/Worship Reader - This person helps lead the traditional service by leading the congregation in the Call to Worship, the Scripture reading and Offertory Prayer. All the information is provided.
  • Acolyte - Children, during both services, lead us in worship by bringing the flame or “Light of the World” to the altar. Acolytes are in 3rd to 5th grade.

Outreach Ministry

  • Bless the Animals Volunteers - Pets and pet owners gather at the church and ask God’s blessings on our pets. Volunteers make sure there are bowls of water for the pets and dog/cat treats are handed out.
  • Women in Faith - This group works together as a team. There is an annual spiritual retreat as well as numerous activities during the year that make a big impact on community organizations.
  • Rise Against Hunger - Each year the mission team organizes a church wide effort to make thousands of meals to help feed the hungry around the world.
  • The Big Feed - This team works in conjunction with the Amazing Grace food pantry to package up and deliver food to our WISD student's that have been identified as food insecure.  The group meets at 9:00 am Thursday while school is in session. Throughout the year, special offerings are collected during worship so that we can purchase the food that is provided.

Children's Ministry

  • VBS Volunteer - Each summer our church hosts 300+ children for five days. IF you enjoy working with children there are many opportunities the week of Vacation Bible School.
  • Children's Sunday School Teacher - Each Sunday at 10:15 there are opportunities to teach and/or assist with children ages 3 years – 5th grade.
  • Children's Church Leader - Each Sunday during the 9:00am service and during the 11:ooam service you can lead a group of children ranging from 3 yr olds – 1st grade as they come from the church service for 30-40 minutes.

Preschool Ministry

  • Learning Academy Preschool (L.A.P.) - Wylie United has a weekday ministry for preschoolers. Would you like to donate time to help fulfill this ministry.

Youth Ministry

  • Mission Trip Volunteer - Each year the youth group goes on an offsite mission trip during the summer months. The students work and have fun together; however, they need chaperones/volunteers to help with meals.
  • Snack Supper Provider - Students meets each Sunday evening for food, games and worship. Fellowship around the table is vital for a healthy group. Would you like to help support the youth by providing food?
  • Youth Sunday School Teacher - Jr. or Sr. High - Teaching the Word of God, in creative ways, is a significant aspect of ministry to the young people of Wylie United.
  • Youth Buddy - A Youth Buddy is a volunteer who works directly with youth on Sunday evenings; eating, worshipping and fellowshipping with them.

Congregational Care

  • Flower Delivery - Sundays’ flowers are delivered to patients in the hospital, residents in nursing home, those who are shut-in, sick and those who are going through life adjustments.
  • Hospital and Shut-in Visitation - These volunteers visit and pray with those in the area hospitals as well as those who are home bound.
  • Phone Call Ministry - This is calling members of our church family wishing them a happy birthday and a listening ear.

Technical/Office Volunteer

  • A/V Booth - Are you technically gifted? If so, this group coordinates the slides, runs videos, adjusts the sound & the lights during our Sunday services and on other special occassions.
  • Office Administration - Provide office administration support one morning each week.
